Vehicle Specifications

 

The current ALRC Year Book lays down all the vehicle specifications, including roll cage design etc. These notes are based on those specifications and are intended as a guide for new or prospective Club members. If in any doubt consult the Club for advice.

 

There are General Technical Regulations that are concerned with the general state of the vehicle and allowable modifications. Essentially all vehicle parts shall be of Rover manufacture, and vehicle silhouettes and wheelbases shall match those of Rover produced vehicles.

 

There are also Event Regulations concerned with specific types of event.

 

Competitive Safaris, Team Recoverys, Timed Trials and CCV Trials

These events have detailed requirements which are beyond the scope of these notes. All these event require roll cages and seat belts. Consult the current ALRC Year Book for details of vehicle preparation and the latest helmet requirements.

 

Road Taxed Vehicle (RTV) Trials

The vehicle must have an extra throttle return spring acting directly on the throttle butterfly arm or equivalent if diesel or fuel injected. This is to close the throttle in case the linkage to the pedal fails.

Recovery points must be fitted to the front and rear. Towballs etc. bolted to front bumpers must be backed with suitable plates. All fixing bolts (including bumpers if the recovery point is bumper mounted) must be high tensile steel, grade 8.8 or equivalent, or higher.

An adequate tow rope must be carried. "Adequate" means suitable for un-bogging your vehicle; this may mean a snatch recovery. Ropes should be fibre, not wire or chain.

The driver and any passenger must have at least lap type seat belts.

The vehicle must be roadworthy with current tax, MoT and insurance.

The windscreen must be raised, and either a hardtop, truck cab or full canvas must be in place. Door tops must be in place.

Minimum tyre pressure is 22 p.s.i.

 

Tyro Trials

No specific ALRC specifications are laid down, however suitable front and rear recovery points are recommended.

 

Gymkhanas

No specific ALRC specifications are laid down, except that the vehicle must be of Rover manufacture, and comply with a Trials class.

 

Winch Recoverys

No specific ALRC specifications are laid down for the vehicle(s), however the vehicle(s) and all tackle will be inspected for safety before the event.
